Adam watched his feeds, oblivious to Serena’s presence, hovering over his shoulder, bringing him food and drink, emptying the jug full of urine next to the workstation. Going on thirty straight hours in his chair, his eyes burned and muscles twitched from caffeine and adrenalin.

Bina was safe with the military team, whose attention was focused on protecting and removing her, as he planned. The enemies massed nearby, including their leader. Bina’s arrival at the compound of the worst of them, the murderer Stamm, was a lucky development, bringing a larger number of valuable targets into a very small area.  The approaching grendels would provide an excellent distraction while he destroyed many of the evil ones.

He activated his decoy programs, making subtle but detectable intrusions into the missile command systems at Malmstrom. As expected, the sniffers and blockers Cybercommand installed since his last visit easily thwarted his first level probes. He enabled the next level of interoperability AI agents and watched them begin more sophisticated attacks to keep those resources preoccupied. He turned his attention to the control systems at Mountain Home.

He and his AIs queried and modeled, then penetrated and emulated the control systems, taking up positions in the command center networks, seeing all the feeds they saw. Each command, every input fed and updated the models which then updated the emulations, creating virtual systems and users in parallel with the real ones. Mostly he sat and watched, the system infiltrating and cloning in real time, with minor adjustments to test control and feedback.

Half of the attack drones were already either enroute or on station in the area. He tested his control of those and saw he still had them firmly in hand. He activated the rest, ensured they were all underway, and reassessed the local situation.

His capabilities AI inventoried and assessed the equipment available on the incoming weapons platforms, building battle plans, probing the capabilities of the adversaries, and anticipating the responses of the software controlling those systems.

Soon, his AIs would begin making decisions faster than he could manage. He monitored the emulations to ensure the real controllers remained unaware of his presence. Everything would soon be in place.
